About This Product

The 1970-2001 State and City Data Files on Adolescent Fertility is a compilation of secondary data on adolescent and young women's fertility in the United States. Data are provided in two separate Data Sets. The State Data File, Data Set R1, provides statistics on the number of births, first births, non-marital births, birth rates and non-marital birth rates, tobacco use, low birth weight, and the percentage of births to fathers four or more years older than mothers aged 18 or younger for the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Birth rate data span the years 1970 to 2001. This file also includes information about statewide requirements for HIV/STD, abstinence, and contraceptive education. Data Set R1 contains 32 variables; data on birth numbers per state are grouped by age and ethnicity. The City Data File, Data Set R2, provides statistics for 165 large U.S. cities for 2001. Data Set R2 includes 13 variables indicating the number of births, non-marital births, and repeat births per 1,000 women. Number of births are grouped by age and ethnicity.
