Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Programs Archive

Sociometrics Corporation announces the creation of the Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Programs Archive (YSAPPA). The YSAPPA is a collection of 12 effective substance abuse prevention programs for youth (pre-teens, teens and young adults). All programs in the archive were selected for their demonstrated, positive impact in preventing and/or reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol and/or other drugs among adolescents and young adults. The archive is funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse.

Overview

The Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Programs Archive is a collection of 12 programs that are aimed at preventing or reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol and/other drugs by adolescents and young adults. The programs were selected by a national advisory panel of leading scientists in the field of substance abuse prevention. Selection criteria included behavioral effectiveness, quality of implementation, and strength of the evaluation design and findings. Click here for a complete description of the selection criteria. The YSAPPA is the third program archive to be created by Sociometrics, along with PASHA and HAPPA which are aimed at teen pregnancy and HIV/AIDS prevention.

Each program package or replication kit includes all the materials needed to implement and re-evaluate the promising intervention. *   The materials include:

  • all the original Program Materials (such as Instructors Manuals, Workbooks, Videos, Student Exercise Books etc.),
  • a User's Guide that describes the program, its development and original evaluation, (User's Guides are also available separately for shipment or download)
  • a multimedia CD-ROM prepared by archive staff that provides easy to follow, step by step guidelines for implementing and evaluating the program, and
  • an accompanying evaluation packet for reassessing the effectiveness of the program in a new site.

In addition, users will be offered free technical support for evaluation by Sociometrics staff for up to a year after purchase.

Each program package is developed in full collaboration with and approval from the original developers. Although the original program content is unchanged, some implementation materials may be redesigned as necessary, to enhance their usability. The aim is to make the YSAPPA program packages comprehensive, user-friendly and visually appealing.

Each of the 12 programs in the archive can be purchased separately from Sociometrics, or as a complete collection.

* Some programs recommend or require training for implementers. The program packages of such programs describe where and how to obtain such training from the original developer or a training site designated by the developer.
