Athletes Training and Learning to Avoid Steroids
(ATLAS)
Investigators:
ATLAS is a drug prevention and health promotion program designed for male
athletes in grades 9 through 12. This team-centered, gender-specific program
addresses key risk and protective factors associated with anabolic steroids
and other drug use.
Coaches and student team leaders deliver ten weekly, 50-minute class sessions
and research staff delivers 8-weight room sessions. Topics covered include
sports nutrition and strength training alternatives to athletic enhancing substances
and strategies to avoid alcohol and other drugs. Coaches and peer teammates
facilitate curriculum delivery with scripted manuals in small interactive groups.
Materials in this program package are licensed for use in one implementation site.
