Know Your Body School Health Program
Investigators:
Know Your Body (KYB) is a skills-based, teacher-delivered comprehensive health-promotion program for grades K-6 developed by the American Health Foundation (AHF). The program's motto
is "Nobody Takes Better Care of You Than You." The primary goal of the program is to provide students with the knowledge, attitude, skills, and experience necessary to make positive
health choices. Students are instilled with a belief that they are responsible for their own health, thoughts, feelings, and actions. The KYB program consists of five basic
components: (1) skills-based health education curriculum (grades K-6), (2) teacher/coordinator training, (3) biomedical screening, (4), extracurricular activities, and (5) program
evaluation. The curriculum and the teacher/coordinator training are the core components; the other components are optional enhancements. All program boxes also
contain a User's
Guide, Training Tutorial and telephone technical support on implementation and evaluation for 1 year.
An average of 60 sessions take place per year for each of the grades K-6. The
lessons last approximately 2 hours and are spaced about a week apart. The program
can possibly be implemented outside a classroom setting.
