PASHA Male Involvement Programs: Wise Guys Program & Evaluation Package

Sociometrics has recently expanded its collection of pregnancy prevention intervention available through PASHA by adding Wise Guys, a program focused exclusively on males. Wise Guys is a comprehensive 8-12 week workshop designed for the prevention of adolescent pregnancy and dating violence that focuses on 10-19 year-old males. The program promotes the concept of responsibility-especially in the area of sexuality-and also teaches young men the importance of life skills such as setting goals, decision-making, communication, and resisting peer pressure.

Although few male-involvement programs have been evaluated and shown to be effective, Wise Guys has strong evaluation results. In a six-month post program follow up program participants, compared to a control group, showed:

• increased communication with their parents about sexuality related issues
• increased knowledge of sexuality
• increased support of abstinence
• increased knowledge about and use of contraception
• improved attitudes about sexuality and sex roles

This PASHA program package contains everything you will need to implement the program except for some items better obtained locally and equipment such as a TV and VCR. Included in the package are a User's Guide, 4 videos, activity cards, overheads, a detailed program manual. The PASHA program package also contains three resources for evaluation:

• the instruments used by the original program developers in demonstrating the effectiveness of this program
• The Prevention Minimum Evaluation Data Set, a generic questionnaire that can be adapted to suit most prevention programs; and
• the Local Evaluator Consultant Network Directory
