1984 Survey of Family Relations and Adolescent Sex Behavior in Salt Lake City, Utah, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and San Bernardino County
Brent C. Miller

This study was designed in response to the Adolescent Family Life Act of 1981 promoting greater parental involvement in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy and conducted as an evaluation of a prevention service demonstration grant awarded T. D. Olson of Brigham Young University by the Office of Population Affairs. Students (n=1,587) attending high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and San Bernardino County, California were subjected to an alternative curriculum designed to promote greater parental involvement in adolescent sexual decision making, and surveyed on a gamut of familial communication, personality perception, and sexual attitude questions. A pretest and posttest design was employed to assess the effectiveness of the alternative curriculum. In addition, parental data were acquired from a parent questionnaire designed to differentiate degree of parental involvement.
