1983 Survey of Family Relations and Adolescent Sex Behavior in Salt Lake City, Utah and Albuquerque, New Mexico

This study was designed in response to the Adolescent Family Life Act of 1981 promoting greater parental involvement in the prevention of adolescent pregnancy. It was conducted as an evaluation of a prevention service demonstration grant awarded T. D. Olson of Brigham Young University by the Office of Population Affairs. Six hundred fifty (650) students attending high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Albuquerque, New Mexico were subjected to an alternative curriculum designed to promote greater parental involvement in adolescent sexual decision making and surveyed on a gamut of familial communication, personality perception and sexual attitude questions. A pretest and posttest design (with a comparison group of 186 students) was employed to assess the effectiveness of the alternative curriculum.
