DAAPPP Data Set No. 44

1979 U.S. National Survey of Young Women
Melvin Zelnik and John F. Kantner

Like the 1971 and 1976 National Surveys of Young Women (DAAPPP Data Set Nos. 01 and 02), this study was aimed at providing estimates of the prevalence of sexual activity, contraceptive use and nonuse, premarital pregnancy and its resolution among teenage women. The study also attempted to determine how informed young women were about contraception and the menstrual cycle. Women aged 15 to 19 living in households in Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the continental United States comprised the sample. The survey included 1,717 ever-married and never-married respondents. The survey also gathered data from young men (DAAPPP Data Set No. 45).

Note for users of DAAPPP Data Sets #01-B1

DAAPPP data sets 01 through B1 (NATASHA 1) are comprised of a User's Guide, SPSS syntax files (*.SPS or *.SPX) and raw data files only. Most of these datasets contain SPSS syntax files that use Job Control Language (JCL) from 1980s versions of SPSS-X. Because the syntax is old, the syntax files require editing to conform to the current syntax standards used by SPSS/Windows or SPSS/Unix. If you require technical assistance in using or editing these syntax files, please contact Sociometrics' Data Support Group at 800.846.3475 or socio@socio.com.
