DAAPPP Data Set No. 26

1982 National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), Cycle III (Women Aged 15-44)
National Center for Health Statistics

This is the third in a series of surveys conducted periodically by the National Center for Health Statistics on topics related to childbearing, contraceptive practice, and related aspects of maternal and child health. A probability sample of 7,969 U.S. women aged 15-44 was interviewed. In the original NSFG data tape, there were two kinds of records: respondent data for each woman, and pregnancy- interval data, based on information about each pregnancy. The DAAPPP file is an extract of the public use tape. The extract focuses on those variables most salient to the teenage portion of the lifespan - sexual debut, sexual behavior, contraceptive practice - and on those variables related to use of family planning services. Two hundred nine variables were selected from the respondent-level data. In addition, 37 interval-level variables were included from the data on the first pregnancy interval for all women who had data on a first pregnancy. These two types of data were merged to create a file with 7,969 cases.

Note for users of DAAPPP Data Sets #01-B1

DAAPPP data sets 01 through B1 (NATASHA 1) are comprised of a User's Guide, SPSS syntax files (*.SPS or *.SPX) and raw data files only. Most of these datasets contain SPSS syntax files that use Job Control Language (JCL) from 1980s versions of SPSS-X. Because the syntax is old, the syntax files require editing to conform to the current syntax standards used by SPSS/Windows or SPSS/Unix. If you require technical assistance in using or editing these syntax files, please contact Sociometrics' Data Support Group at 800.846.3475 or socio@socio.com.
