POSITION OPENING: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE/SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Sociometrics Corporation is seeking a Research Associate or Senior Research
Associate (RA/SRA) who will contribute to research and development in
health education and evaluation areas.
SOCIOMETRICS
With about 15 employees, Sociometrics Corporation (www.socio.com)
is a small, for-profit social science research and development firm located
in Los Altos, CA. Sociometrics develops research-based products and services
in the health field that benefit scientists, practitioners, policymakers,
and the public. Its research and development have focused on:
- The development and dissemination of effective program archives,
which are collections of social, health and mental health prevention
or intervention programs with demonstrated efficacy
- The design of machine-readable, topically-focused data archives,
together with the development of user-friendly software for search
and retrieval of information in health and social science databases
- The design, execution, and analysis of program evaluations
- The provision of training and technical assistance to practitioners
in areas of program development, evaluation, data analysis, and fund
development
- The creation of educational material and curricula for addressing
social and clinical problems, often delivered in interactive online
formats
POSITION DUTIES
The RA/SRA will work closely and directly with company President Dr.
Josefina J. Card on several tasks.
- Primary responsibility will be to collaborate with Dr. Card and other
senior staff at Sociometrics on two federally-funded projects: 1) to
develop training curricula for the HIV/AIDS Training, Technical Assistance,
and Information Exchange Centers (HATTIE), comprising science-based
resources in the HIV prevention field; and 2) to execute an outcome
evaluation of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Practitioner Institute (HPPI),
comprising five multimedia courses (with accompanying course textbooks)
focused on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of HIV prevention
programs.
- The RA/SRA will also collaborate with Dr. Card in the development
of R&D proposals aimed at translating scientific findings in the
health field into formats and language usable by non-scientist audiences
(e.g., health educators, health practitioners, state and local health
officials, policymakers, lay citizens). Eventually, the RA/SRA may
move on to heading his/her own projects.
- Finally, occasional troubleshooting tasks may be assigned relating
to other research projects headed by Dr. Card and/or to marketing of
Sociometrics’ science-based products.
The RA/SRA’s duties on these projects will include, but are not
limited to:
- Writing, editing, and formatting materials for training and dissemination
- Recruiting evaluation study participants
- Usability testing
- Conducting phone interviews, focus groups and site visits
- Developing evaluation instruments
- Data analysis
- Research report/journal article/book/ and book chapter writing or
editing
- Grant proposal writing
- Conducting literature searches
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- MA or PhD in a social or behavioral science
- Proven qualitative and quantitative research abilities
- Experience in health education, program evaluation, development of
training materials (Five or more years experience is preferred)
- Experience with (or ability to pick up quickly) software/webinar
training products such as GotoMeeting
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
The following qualifications are also desired:
- Experience conducting focus groups and interviews
- Proficiency with SPSS and Microsoft Office
- A publication track record
- Experience with development of online or electronic health-related
resources
COMPENSATION
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
