I have an international family consisting of two Filipino parents,
seven siblings, and 12 nieces and nephews, as
well as an American husband and two daughters. Together, we
started the JCAP Fund to provide four-year college scholarships
and expense money for Philippine public high school graduates who
graduate from high school in the top 20% of their class. JCAP scholarships
will cover tuition, books, and incidental expenses such as lab
fees and transportation to and from school. Tuition is expected
to average $1,145 (P55,000) per scholar-year. Books and other school-related
expenses are expected to average $230 (P11,000). The scholarships
will not cover board & lodging; therefore, it is expected that
most JCAP scholars will continue to live at home. Given this constraint,
JCAP Scholars will be free to attend any Philippine college or
university of their choice that accepts them using standard admission
procedures.
JCAP
stands for Jayme-Card-Ayala-Pathways.
Jayme and Card are family names. Our role will be to raise funds
for endowment of these scholarships. Pathways and Ayala are established
Philippine-based organizations that will partner with us in ensuring
the program’s success. Established four years ago by a grant
from the Ford Foundation, Pathways (http://www.admu.edu.ph/?p=87)
will make sure that JCAP scholarships
are awarded in a fair manner; that JCAP scholars are nurtured and
mentored from their high school junior year through their college
graduation; and that parents and families of JCAP scholars are given
opportunities to make a livelihood. The Ayala Foundation (www.ayalafoundation.org
in the Philippines and www.af-usa.org
in the US)
will manage the JCAP funds.
Our parents were not rich. They sacrificed a lot to send their eight
children to college. My husband himself was a scholar who could
not have attended college were it not for the generosity of a kind
benefactor. Our lives are better for the sacrifice and generosity
of those who came before us. We know you feel the same way about
your parents and others who paved the way for your success. Let
us all “pay it forward” by giving future generations
of talented but needy Filipinos educational opportunities similar
to the ones we were blessed with. It is said that a good education
opens the doors to a brighter future. We deeply believe this and
hope that you do as well.
SOCIOMETRICS Corporation, a social science research
firm in Los Altos, California, has made JCAP Scholarships the main
beneficiary of its Giving Program. Sociometrics believes in giving
back to the local, national, and international communities that
it serves. The company is the primary driving force behind the birth
of JCAP and remains firmly committed to its growth and success.

Pathways estimates that it will cost, on average, $1,375 (P66,000)
per year to cover one scholar’s tuition, books, lab fees,
and transportation money to and from school. This means that a
donation of $5,500 or more will allow you to Adopt-a-Scholar for his/her entire
college career and enter JCAP's Golden Circle of Donors
(donation can be split into four annual contributions of $1,375).
Our
exclusive Golden Circle of Donors is specially reserved
for persons or institutions that have donated funds to cover the
educational expenses of one or more JCAP scholars for the entire
duration of their college courses.
When you join our Golden Circle of Donors, we can name
a scholarship after you or a name of your choice (your parents
or your company), if you so decide. If you agree, we can also mention
your name prominently on our website and all our communication
materials as an honored member of our Golden Circle of Donors.
