HIV/AIDS (HAPPA)
The HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Archive (HAPPA), funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is a collection of effective prevention program replication kits designed to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. This resource is designed to assist prevention practitioners by: (1) identifying and facilitating access to effective HIV/AIDS adult prevention programs, and (2) encouraging rigorous reevaluation of these programs. The programs were selected by a national advisory panel of leading scientists in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention. Note: 21 additional HIV/AIDS prevention programs for adolescents are listed under teen pregnancy.

Drug User Intervention Trial
Investigators:
The DUIT intervention teaches HIV and HCV negative injection drug users the importance of safer sex and risk-reduction in injection drug use. This program encourages behavior change by providing information, enhancing risk-reduction skills, and motivating behavior change through peer education training during six 2-hour sessions.

Focus on the Future
Investigators:
The FOCUS ON THE FUTURE intervention teaches young (18-29 year-old) heterosexual African American men recently diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection basic STI/HIV/AIDS and safer sex information. In addition, during this single hour-long session, the facilitator demonstrates correct condom use. Participants practice condom use skills and discuss condom negotiation skills and any questions, problems, or concerns they may have regarding safer sex. Participants receive vials of water-based lubricants and 12 or more condoms of their choice.

Holistic Health Recovery Program for Injection Drug Users

Optimizing Partner Notification
Investigator:
The OPEN intervention is delivered in either one or two sessions to individuals recently diagnosed with an STI. A health educator promotes partner STI notification by working with the participant to develop a partner notification plan and practice notification through role play. During an optional second session, the health educator checks in with the participant four weeks later to discuss any progress made towards partner notification and barriers encountered.

Portland Women's Health Program

Protect and Respect
Investigator:
The PROTECT & RESPECT PROGRAM aims to reduce the sexual transmission of HIV by decreasing high-risk behaviors among women living with HIV/AIDS. During the different sessions, participants learn HIV facts, HIV transmission information, how to identify personal risk behaviors, how to identify triggers to risk, problem solving tactics, contraceptive skills, assertive negotiation strategies, disclosure strategies, and goal setting.

Real Men Are Safe
Investigator:
The REMAS intervention aims to prevent male substance abuse treatment attendees from engaging in unprotected sexual behaviors and sex under the influence of drugs or alcohol. During five 90-minute sessions, two male health counselors deliver the REMAS program which helps men to identify risky behaviors, promotes HIV prevention planning including correct condom use, motivates men to change their behaviors, and teaches participants strategies and skills through role play and practice.

SMART Couples
Investigators:
The SMART COUPLES intervention teaches serodiscordant (mixed HIV status) how to support the partner living with HIV/AIDS so that he or she can increase medication adherence. Through structured discussion, instructions provided by a nurse practitioner, and problem-solving and communication exercises, participants learn the importance of medical care adherence, how to increase their adherence in the future, and how to support each other with issues such as sex, intimacy, and transmission risk.
