HIV/AIDS and STD Data Archive

The HIV/AIDS/STD Data Archive, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), includes data sets that provide descriptive and comparative data on the behavioral and social antecedents and consequences of HIV, AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases. Data sets address a variety of topics including: the incidence and prevalence of specific sexual behaviors (including abstinence, vaginal and anal intercourse, oral-genital sexual activity, masturbation); contraceptive and STD-preventive behavior; attitudes and beliefs regarding sexual behavior and methods of contraception and STD prophylaxis; AIDS/HIV knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and serostatus; current and past episodes of gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, and other STDs; and high-risk behavior, including alcohol/drug use and prostitution. All datasets in the archive have been selected by a panel of scientist experts in the field of HIV/AIDS research.

The purpose of the archive is to provide access to the best data sets on the prevalence, incidence, correlates, and consequences of HIV/AIDS in the U.S. These valuable data resources facilitate progress towards the HIV/AIDS-related prevention and control objectives of Healthy People 2010, encourage secondary analysis of the best existing data, thereby adding to our base of knowledge and increasing the scientific yield from the investment in research. Data sets are available as a Comprehensive Archive or individually. Select a data set title below for more information.
