1969-1982 State-Level Data on Adolescent Pregnancy,
Assembled by the Institute for Research and Evaluation
This data file includes macro-level data from the 50 states and the District of Columbia on 75 elementary constituent variables and 69 derived and computed variables. The elementary variables include information on the number of females and single females aged 15-19; the number of whites, people below poverty, people in urban areas, and people who lived 5 years in the same residence per 1,000 population; the number of births, abortions, and estimated miscarriages to females aged 15-19; a breakdown of abortions by state residence and occurrence; and the number of teen clients in organized family planning programs. Derived and computed variables include information on birth, family planning, abortion, and miscarriage rates per 1,000 females aged 15- 19; adjusted abortion residence-occurrence ratios; rates of pregnancy occurrence and continuation for females aged 15- 19; and a variable which weights the state-level observations proportionately to the number of young women aged 15-19 in each state. Data were compiled from publications of the U. S. Census Bureau, the National Center for Health Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Alan Guttmacher Institute.
