1976-1980 Second U.S. National Health and Nutrition
Examination Survey: Selected Variables
Investigators:
The Second National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES II) was conducted between 1976 and 1980. Like the earlier NHANES (DAAPPP Data Set No. 19), it was designed as a national probability sample to obtain data on the civilian non-institutionalized U.S. population. The Data Set contains information for all 6 month to 11 year olds, including the age of the mother at the birth. The file merges information obtained from a demographic and household survey, a medical history survey, and a medical examination. It contains information on the demographic background of the household and household head; height and weight; a series of body and skinfold measurements; medical examination results; and a medical history. Because of the information on the age of the mother and the household data, this data set is especially useful for examining the effect of teen parenting on child health and development.
