1982 National Survey of Family Growth, Cycle III
Exposure Interval File
Investigators:
This data was extracted to create a file compatible with an analysis of contraceptive failure, using data from Cycle III of the National Survey of Family Growth (separately documented as DAAPPP Data Set No. 26). The selection of eligible intervals was accomplished in three stages. First, each respondent was examined to determine eligibility for inclusion in the study. Second, among eligible women, each pregnancy interval was examined and ineligible intervals discarded. Finally, intervals of use and non-use of contraceptives occurring within eligible pregnancy intervals were examined and eligible intervals were selected. In all, the 7,969 respondents to the NSFG contributed 11,253 separate, continuous intervals of exposure. Continuous intervals separated by changes in marital status and/or by periods of no intercourse were coded as multiple intervals, yielding 12,962 intervals available for analysis. For each of these 12,962 intervals, 33 interval-related characteristics are available from this data file.
Note for users of DAAPPP Data Sets #01-B1
DAAPPP data sets 01 through B1 are comprised of a User's
Guide, SPSS syntax files (*.SPS or *.SPX) and raw data files only. Most of
these datasets contain SPSS syntax files that use Job Control Language (JCL)
from 1980s versions of SPSS-X. Because the syntax is old, the syntax files
require editing to conform to the current syntax standards used by SPSS/Windows
or SPSS/Unix. If you require technical assistance in using or editing these
syntax files, please contact Sociometrics' Data Support Group at 800.846.3475
or socio@socio.com.
