What applications may be used with the unzipped dataset files?
ASCII and text files may be viewed by any text reader or word processing application (this includes the raw data, data dictionary, frequencies file, SPSS and SAS syntax, and SPSS portable file).
Most RAW data files and PORTABLE SPSS files are too large to be read or viewed by the commonly used word processing or text viewing applications. We recommend that users NOT try to view these files.
SPSS portable system files (.POR) may be opened in SPSS/Windows or SPSS/Unix, or converted using StatTransfer.
SAS transport files (.TPT) may be imported into SAS/Windows or SAS/Unix, or converted using StatTransfer.
PDF files may be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader, versions 3.0 or higher.
